That&#8217;s about 70 miles per day. This was primarily to celebrate being 50 this year &#8211; OK, call it a mid-life crisis if you must! &#8211; and was part of a bigger &#8216;<em>cycling 4000 miles in a year<\/em>&#8216; personal challenge (which later turned into a &#8216;<em>cycling 5000 miles in a year<\/em>&#8216; challenge).<\/p>\n<p>However, I also wanted to use the ride to <a href=\"http:\/\/uk.virginmoneygiving.com\/andypowe11\">raise some money<\/a> for charity and I&#8217;m really grateful for the support I received. The money was split evenly between two charities &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stpetershospice.org.uk\/\">St Peter\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Hospice<\/a> in Bristol (in memory of Rachel Heery) and\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bookaid.org\/\">Book Aid International<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In the end I raised \u00c2\u00a33600 which is fantastic.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks,<\/p>\n<p>Andy<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From 25 July to 9 August 2010 I rode my wreck of a mountain bike approximately 1000 miles from Land&#8217;s End to John O&#8217;Groats.
