The bike was quite heavily loaded for this trip… I took two panniers and a handle-bar bag, as well as having to strap stuff on the rack. These contained the following:<\/p>\n
1 small Gelert Solo 1-man tent. This proved to be horrible to sleep in (particularly in the wet) but was pretty lightweight at 1.5kg, so can’t really complain. 1 roll-mat for under the tent. These two items were in a waterproof bag strapped onto the top of my rear rack.<\/p>\n
1 sleeping bag, silk liner and travel pillow – this filled one of my panniers.<\/p>\n
Spare clothes (fleece, tee-shirt, jeans, pants, socks), crocks, wash-bag, Kindle, Tupperware container (which I intended to use as a bowl if necessary), cup, tea bags and a few energy bars, spare 3\/4 length bib cycling trousers, spare Helly Hansen top – my other pannier.<\/p>\n
Map, head-torch, bike lights, puncture repair kit (which we ended up using twice but not for my bike), padlock, waterproof, wallet, iphone – all in my my handlebar bag.<\/p>\n
For cycling, I wore a Helly Hansen top and thick cycling jersey, a pair of bib cycling shorts, socks and SPDs. In practice, I wore both my cycling trousers for much of the time, partly to keep warm and partly because my road saddle really wasn’t good for off-road stuff and I needed the extra padding!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
